Trend: All That Black

Seeing this picture of Eliza Dushku got me thinking... when did ALL black emsemble stop reminding people of gothic emo kids and start looking well... posh. I remember in my younger days when someone stepped out like this:

...it meant that they were into Marilyn Manson, The Crow, vampires, overall dark and depressing things. Now when I sit and think about it I have stepped out all in black and felt not-so depressing. Au contraire, felt right down classy and put together. So when exactly did wearing all black turn from being outcasted to being star-casted? Is this something that was only misconceived in certain parts of middle-America? Has the rest of the world always felt that all-black is the only way to go when you want to give the appearance of taste yet laissez faire attitude? Is it no longer the 'it's that time of month' staple outfit? I ponder these things as I pull out my pair of black jeans with full intent to wear them with a black blouse and a thick black belt even though I have barely heard one song of Mr. Manson's collection. Back to black anyone?
