A Girl's Guide to Saving and Stylin'

Five cheap ways to update your Fall wardrobe without breaking the bank.

It's here. Fall, my favorite time of year. The time when I can say 'screw you flowy dress and pink polish!' and say hello to warm clothing, Pumpkin Spice Latte and Fall leaves. Not that we have any in Florida but a girl can dream.

I've already calculated that I have spent entirely too much in an attempt to 'Fallize' my wardrobe. If I would've done this to start off with I could've had more $ to update my DVD collection.

So what do you need this Fall?

1. Booties
You must have a pair of booties. It's a must. You can get a high end pair or you can get the cheap alternative in order to save bucks for that thing called Christmas coming up.

Here's a few from Go Jane, all under 40 bucks!

2. Patterned/Lace Tights
This will Fall-ize any Summer dress and will keep you warm when the wind starts blowing, plus they look AWESOME with the booties.

These beautiful ones found at Banana Republic are $19 but you can pick some up at Target for half that price. I know I already did. Be careful with them, when taken care of they can last. Hand wash them and hang them to dry and always carry a small bottle of clear polish to stop runs.

3. Dark Polish
It's a truth universally acknowledged that in the Fall nails turn dark. You dont have to be a compulsive nail-a-hollic like me. One good color can last you for a while if you find the perfect one.

A bottle of OPI will cost you $8 and the last on them is worth it or you can go for a cheaper alternative and Sally Hansen has never done me wrong. The line of Insta-Dry is no joke. It literally dries in a minute. And all you need is ONE coat.  You can get them at any drugstore for about $5.50 a piece. Remember - dark. (Jumpin' Jade, Uptempo Plum, Blazing Blue, etc.)

4. The Blazer / Military Jacket
Thrown over a basic tank or a flowy dress sharpens the look for fall. Like the one below from Forever 21 which can be purchased for about $23.

I got my blazer at the Thrift Store super cheap plus dry cleaning. Totally worth it and updated my look without breaking the bank.

5. Pearls!

This time around leave the dangly, oversize Gypsy earrings at home and opt for a thick bold pearl necklace. Necklaces are huge right now and adding some femininity to your LBD while pairing your new stockings & booties will scream lady-like rock princess (dont forget your dark polish).

Found this stunner at American Eagle for under $20

If you were to update your closet with a few essentials shown here you would've spent a total of about $100. Not too shabby, eh?

(notice that I ignore animal print and fur all together. I just can't handle it, I cant. Anything animal-like is not my thing but they are big right now.)

Also. I am now Twittering. This is a new concept for me so bare with me as I try to sound cool and aloof via phone texting while I'm really attempting not to rear-end someone while twittering and drinking coffee.

  1. Great post! I'm in love with the booties you posted! Definitely planning to get some print and lace tights for the colder weather.

  2. Thanks! I know, all those booties in that site made me want to buy all of them which defeats the purpuse of the 'smart shopping'.
