Demi in Elle UK

Quickie to give you info. I love it when I can find the UK magazines in Florida, they're such a treat! Elle for May featured Demi looking amazing but what really got me in this cover was her nail polish! I scurried the magazine and I found that it's actually one that I own!

Now I'm obsessed with painting them this color because look how awesome they look!

The color she's sporting is part of the mushroom nail trend that I am just adoring. Orly's Country Club Khaki. Perfect color, no?

You can buy it at your local Sally's Beauty Supply or perhaps online at the Orly site. It's part of the Prepster collection that came out last year :)

Prize Time!

I know I have been MIA once more. Work cuts in and prevented me from updating the blog. I do come bearing good news!

I will hold my first ever giveaway! It's a small one but a fun one nonetheless. This week while away I picked up OPI's Mad as a Hatter which is sold out in a lot of places. All my local stores were sold out and my usual websites were also sold out. At this point you most likely have to get in in ebay. So imagine my happy surprise when I walked into a small little shop and found two of them! I rapidly grabbed one for me but then I stared at the one left and I was like "I bet my readers would love to win one..." so I got it for you guys!

Look how insane this color is (no pun intended)

You'll need THREE coats to get it this intense but it's really worth it. Very sparkly and fun!

So this is what you have to do if you want to qualify to win:
  1. Email me at youvegotshoes@gmail.com
    • Send me your name and email address
    • Subject: Mad as a Hatter!
    • Deadline is  April 3, 2010!
    • I will post the winner on April 4th and I will email you to get your address!
  1. That's it! I will ship internationally, so anyone can enter!
I will draw up a random name, please enter only once to be fair to others =)

Good luck, guys! I will post tomorrow with an actual update!

Trend: Tauped it All

Taupe nails are nothing new, seriously, this isn't something that is a grand scientific discovery or anything. We haven't landed in the nail color equivalency of the moon. Yet, after a long time of sporting bold and dark colors on our nails it seems like a change of pace to feel the return of a neutral nail. By neutral nail I dont mean the god-awful French manicure or the creamy ivory that didn't leave my nail bed for like two years, two years ago. What I am referring to is the taupe nail. Lovely, creamy darker beige in a mushroom-y taupy goodness. Yes, I realize half of those words are not technically words but they convey my emotions :)

This is the color you dont have to worry about all week; it's the color that goes with the lovely neutrals coming this Spring and it's the color I seem to be buying more and more without realizing it. So I've swatched some shades, these colors are now available in nearly all brands, so you can get your favorite brand :)

And now swatched:

From left to right: Rimmel's Steel Gray, Maybeline's Touch of Taupe, CHI's Love That Milky Way Shake & ORLY's Country Club Khaki.

I dont think I will buy more as I seem to have plenty of taupes now... the problem is which to wear this week =/

What thinks you? Are you willing to lay your dark green to rest for a while for a lovely taupe or are you skipping this fashion wave?

Drum Roll! My First Batch of Frankenpolishes!!!

I've spent all week working on these. I have some serious duds in my hands. But I got some really nice ones out of the process and some that I can name in my top 10 all time favorite polishes, which for me that's saying A LOT. :)

What I decided to do with these that I took as the finalists is I'm making a goodie basket for my friend Andy who just moved and she's feeling homesick and such. She's a bigger polish whore than I am, she loves dark tones and she also loved the Jade-like colors this Fall. So I went to TBKTrading, ordered some empty bottles and once those arrive I will transfer the color to them and send them packing! She's going to be SO excited!

First up, the Jade-wannabe. It was not my intention but it was so lovely I couldn't mess with it. I think she's going to LOVE it! (click on pics for larger image)

For Good Luck

I'm comparing it here to OPI's Hey Get In Lime! It's darker than that one and it's got glimmer in it like Chanel's Jade. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Babysitting Blues

My favorite part of this is naming them and the dark blue is going to be one of her faves, it's going to look awesome against her light complexion.

You're Blocking My Sun!

I absolutely hate this one. Seriously, I dont like the orange, this was not what I intended to do but alas it's what came. I dont think I'll send her this one because she, like me, doesn't do orange.

Ugly Ducking

This is the runt of the family, I hated this color, it wasn't doing what I wanted for it to do so I set it aside and went to eat. Then I decided to paint my nails with it and see what happened? I loved it! So because I first hated it and then I thought it was lovely I named it so.

drumroll!
Gold for Sister Sarah

I mean... I love this color SO much I am still convincing myself she doesn't need it. I could use it... for the rest of my life. BUT I know she will love it even more because this is her color mecca. I dont even remember how I got it like this all I know is that it's beautiful and I named it after one of my favorite westerns. I think it was part clear, park black and some of the new copperishsilver pigments I just got. Shake, shake, shake and BAM. Perfection in a bottle. Love.it. Just look at all the sparkles! *dies*

Here are some of the ones that didn't make the cut... so I'll have to keep for myself *innocent*

 Dirty Boy

So Not Jersey Shore

Gray Goose

Oh So Popular!

Very Blueberry (look JUST like Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not)

Dead Grape (it's more purple than 'Ugly Duckling' above and it also gave me a lot of trouble)
I did another one which looked just like the new Chanel's sold out Particulière but Ligi stole it from me at work. I named it "I Love My Fake Chanel". And its in Ligi's house right now so I couldn't swatch it, but I remember the formula.

I took Essie's Mink Muffs which is darker than Chanel's. I added some basic white polish (same I use for the french), added it slowly until it lightened up just right. Then added a slight bit of clear shimmery mineral pigment and voila! A fake Chanel.

Once I rescue it from Ligi's hands I will post some swatches.

Polish Wear Test: Zoya

I've never used Zoya products before, so naturally I had to give this brand a road test. I painted my nails with this fabulous Ibiza color which is perfect for Winter last Thursday. That was exactly 8 days ago.

Loved the color, topped it with my trusty top coat which I call "Nail Cement". I added more 'Nail Cement' on Monday night to keep the color nice and shiny. (unfortunately my 'nail cement' was discontinued and they supposedly replaced it with this, Anti-Chip Top Coat, but I have yet to test it)

Eight days later this is the state of my nails:

Aside from picking the polish on my index finger (give me a break, I was getting my yearly review!) the color stayed intact. I believe the yearly raise served me to get me more Zoya.

I'm really lusting after this shade.

Unfortunately I dont like any of their Spring shades so I have to stick with oldies. But at least they're goodies!

Polish Parade

You know I like to do these every once in a while; show you what I've been sporting :)

Chi's Check out That Venus Goddess

Essie's Groovy Grape

Essie's Mint Candy Apple
(more blue-tone to it than Channel's Jade but still lovely)

Nubar's  Cherry Cordial

Orly's Country Club Khaki <3

OPI's Shim-Shimmery

OPI's Hey Get In Lime! (great for those of you who refuse to spend a percentage of your paycheck on Channel's Jade, it's nearly identical)

My traveling nail kit. I know. I'm a nerd.

That's all for now, I will continue collecting polish pics :)
